DESCRIPTION:Join us\, beginning July 7\, to see our new exhibition: “Democracy 250: Making Each Vote Count.”\n\n\n\nBeginning Tuesday\, July 7\, through the end of 2026 \n\n\n\nTuesdays\, 10 AM to 3 PM Thursdays\, 10 AM to 3 PM Saturdays\, 11 AM to 3 PM \n\n\n\nAbout the Exhibition: Curated by Middletown’s Municipal Historian\, Deborah Shapiro\, this exhibition tells captivating stories of Middletown men and women. Coming from many backgrounds—including Native American\, African American\, and immigrant—these local heroes have championed the ideals of the American Revolution from 1776 to today: ideals of liberty and equality that the country continues to struggle to uphold. \n\n\n\nThe array of remarkable people who have called Middletown home\, some well-known and others unsung\, is astonishing. Some gained fame in their own lifetimes\, like the War of 1812 hero Thomas Macdonough—the namesake of Macdonough School—and the Civil War hero Joseph K. F. Mansfield. But others\, like members of the Beman family\, free Black abolitionists and equal-rights advocates\, and Mrs. Clara Palmer\, a woman of color and Wangunk descendant who successfully fought employment discrimination in Middletown during World War II\, are celebrated in this exhibition for their largely unrecognized contributions. \n\n\n\nThe inspiring stories in this exhibition remind us that the American Revolution was only a beginning. Subsequent generations of Americans from every walk of life—soldiers\, suffragists\, abolitionists\, politicians\, teachers\, and many other ordinary heroes—have fought to extend and protect freedom for all Americans.

SUMMARY:250th All County Parade
DESCRIPTION:THE PARADE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL LABOR DAY WEEKEND!\n\nJoin us in downtown Middletown on July 4 as we celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary at the All County Parade! \nThe parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. from the northern end of Main Street near Eli Cannon’s Tap Room and travels the full length of Main Street\, ending at the South Green near Mondo. With the parade route stretching through downtown\, there’s no bad spot to line up\, wave your flags\, and join in the celebration. \nAnd while you’re cheering on all the incredible participants\, be sure to keep an eye out for the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce team—we’ll be joining in the festivities and look forward to celebrating with you! \nInstructions: if you march with us\, please gather between 9 AM and 9:30 (no later than 9:30) on the corner of Spring Street and Rome Avenue. Cars are not allowed in the staging area after 9 AM\, so plan to get dropped off at the corner of Spring and High Streets\, then walk the block down to Rome Avenue. \nThe parade steps off at 10 AM\, with the MCHS in Division I. We will be the first Division to reach the South Green\, around 10:30. You can then watch the rest of the parade from there. \nThis is a historic\, county-wide community event 250 years in the making! A number of Middlesex County towns are participating\, the Governor’s Foot Guard will march in the parade\, and the event will feature a National Guard flyover. At the close of the parade\, there will be remarks on the South Green\, followed by a concert at noon. Food trucks will be stationed on Old Church Street.

DESCRIPTION:All eyes at the Middlesex County Historical Society’s 40th Annual Antique Car Show and Flea Market will gravitate to this year’s featured car\, a 1940 Ford California Custom Convertible Coupe. It will motor to the show located at Palmer Field adjacent to Washington Street\, Route 66 in Middletown on Sunday\, October 4. Car registration begins at 9:30 am and judging starts at 11:30 am with trophies awarded to the top vehicles at 1:30 pm.  \nGeneral admission: $5.00 (Children 12 and under are free) \nRain Date: Sunday\, October 11.
